STATEN ISLAND, NY — April 28, 2025 — The Staten Island Monarchs made history this past weekend by winning their first-ever championship at the 2025 USL Pathway Classic U-20 Men’s Legacy Tournament.
Competing in a group stage format, the Monarchs were placed alongside Evolution SC, Brooke House FC, and Stars FC. After an intense opening match, the Monarchs secured their first win against Brooke House FC, with Seth Powder delivering the game-winning goal.
Despite a narrow defeat to Evolution SC in their second outing—where Dylan Meadows netted the team’s only goal—the Monarchs remained in contention. Facing top-of-the-group Stars FC in a must-win final group game, the Monarchs showed true resilience. After falling behind early, Allan Pelcastre leveled the match shortly after halftime. In a thrilling finish, Dylan Meadows sealed the victory with a spectacular overhead kick, sending the Monarchs into the championship final.
In the final, the Monarchs delivered a commanding performance against Sueno FC, cruising to an emphatic 7–2 victory. Seth Powder was named Monarchs Man of the Match after notching a brilliant hat-trick. Further goals came from Dylan Meadows, team captains Nick Kishchenko and Nico Vega, and a stunning strike by Chris Sales-Tapia, a definite contender for “Goal of the Tournament.”
“This group showed incredible character and heart,” said Head Coach Anthony Lambert. “They earned every bit of this championship.”
The Staten Island Monarchs’ triumph marks a historic milestone for the club and cements their growing reputation as a powerhouse in youth development.
