Staten Island, NY — Despite challenging weather conditions, the Staten Island Monarchs kicked off their home campaign in style with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Cedar Star Rush on Wednesday night at Hameline Stadium.
The match began with both teams locked in a defensive battle, resulting in a scoreless first half. However, the Monarchs came out of the break with renewed energy. In the 60th minute, forward Seth Powder electrified the home crowd by beating the right fullback and delivering a spectacular right-footed strike into the top corner to open the scoring.
With just under 20 minutes left in regulation, Jaheim Faustin intercepted a pass deep in the opponent’s half and drove forward before delivering a precise cross to Powder, who calmly slotted in his second goal of the evening, doubling the Monarchs’ lead.
Though Cedar Stars Rush managed to pull one back in the 82nd minute, the Monarchs held firm to secure all three points.
The win propels Staten Island Monarchs to second place in the standings as they look to maintain their form heading into their next fixture.
